OmniRemote

Help

Write to support@omniremote.app with your TV's make and model and what happens on screen. A screenshot helps.

Which TVs work with OmniRemote?

TVs and streaming players on the same Wi-Fi as your iPhone or iPad, running one of these:

• Android TV and Google TV

• Roku (TVs and players)

• Samsung smart TVs from 2016 on (Tizen)

• LG smart TVs (webOS)

• Sony Bravia without Google TV

OmniRemote reaches the TV through your home network, so the TV must be on the same router, by Wi-Fi or by cable.

My TV isn't found. What can I check?

Go through this list, then tap Scan again:

• Your iPhone and the TV use the same Wi-Fi, not a guest network.

• The TV is switched on.

• Any VPN on your iPhone is off.

• Local network access is allowed: Settings › Privacy & Security › Local Network › OmniRemote.

• The TV's own remote-control setting is on (see “Your TV's settings”).

Mesh systems and Wi-Fi extenders sometimes keep devices apart. If the TV still doesn't show up, add it by its IP address.

How do I add a TV by its IP address?

In Find my TV, tap Not listed?, then Enter IP address. The TV shows its address in its network settings (often under Network › Network status, or About), and your router lists it among its connected devices. OmniRemote checks the address, recognises the platform and goes on to pairing.

Why does my iPhone ask about the local network?

iOS asks before any app looks for devices in your home. OmniRemote needs it to find your TV and send your presses straight to it; nothing leaves your home network. If you declined, tap Open Settings in the app, or go to Settings › Privacy & Security › Local Network and turn on OmniRemote.

What about Apple TV, Chromecast, Fire TV or Vizio?

They aren't supported yet, so Find my TV leaves them out rather than show a TV that wouldn't respond. That covers Apple TV (its remote is in your iPhone's Control Center), Chromecast without Google TV, Fire TV, Vizio, Hisense VIDAA and Samsung TVs from 2014–2015.

How do I pair an Android TV or Google TV?

Keep the TV on and choose it in Find my TV. The TV shows a 6-character code made of digits and the letters A to F. Type it in the boxes: OmniRemote checks it before sending, so a typo is caught at once. If the code disappears from the TV, tap Try again to get a new one.

Roku: what is “Control by mobile apps”?

A Roku needs no pairing, but it must accept commands from phones. On the Roku, open Settings › System › Advanced system settings › Control by mobile apps › Network access and choose Default (or Permissive). Then tap Try again in OmniRemote.

To turn a Roku TV on from the app, also turn on Settings › System › Power › Fast TV start.

How do I pair a Samsung TV?

Choose the TV in Find my TV, then pick Allow in the message on the TV within 30 seconds. If you chose Deny earlier, remove OmniRemote from the TV's list (Settings › General › External Device Manager › Device Connection Manager › Device List; names vary a little by year) and pair again.

To wake the TV from the app, turn on Settings › General › Network › Expert Settings › Power On with Mobile.

How do I pair an LG TV?

Choose the TV in Find my TV, then pick Allow on the TV within 30 seconds; a “Connected” message then appears on the TV. On older webOS models, also turn on LG Connect Apps in the network settings.

To wake the TV from the app, turn on Settings › All Settings › General › Devices › External Devices › TV On With Mobile › Turn on via Wi-Fi (older models: Connection › Mobile Connection Management › TV On With Mobile).

How do I set up a Sony Bravia without Google TV?

On the TV, open Settings › Network › Home Network Setup › IP Control › Authentication, choose Normal and Pre-Shared Key, then set a Pre-Shared Key (four digits are enough). Type the same key in OmniRemote.

To turn the TV on from the app, also turn on Remote Start in the Home Network Setup menu. Sony TVs with Google TV pair like an Android TV instead.

Can OmniRemote turn my TV on?

Often, yes, as long as the TV keeps its network connection in standby. Roku TVs and Sony Bravias wake with a direct command when Fast TV start (Roku) or Remote Start (Sony) is on. Samsung, LG and Android TVs wake with a Wake-on-LAN signal once their network standby setting is on; TV details shows where it is under Turn on over Wi-Fi.

For now, an iPhone app can only send that signal straight to the TV's last address, so Wake TV may not reach a TV that has been asleep for a long time. Turning the TV off with Power always works while it's connected.

Why doesn't OmniRemote use infrared?

iPhones and iPads have no infrared transmitter, so no app can send IR signals from them. OmniRemote works over Wi-Fi instead: it reaches TVs that are connected to your home network, but not older TVs that have no network connection.

Why are some buttons or modes missing?

OmniRemote shows only what the connected TV can really do, so no button is there for nothing. Samsung and LG TVs get a trackpad, other TVs a swipe pad. Channel buttons appear only where the TV has channels, and Android TV offers app shortcuts instead of its app list. A small lock on Touch, Keys or Apps means that mode is part of Premium.

I type in Keys but nothing appears on the TV

Open a search box on the TV first, then type. On Android TV and Google TV, Send turns on only once the TV reports an open text field. Where the TV supports Live typing, letters appear as you type; elsewhere, tap Send. Some TV apps use their own keyboard and ignore outside typing; the TV's main search usually works.

What does the number next to the TV's name mean?

It's the latency: how many milliseconds (ms) the TV took to answer your last press. Green is under 80 ms, amber under 200 ms, red is slower. If it stays red, move closer to your router, use 5 GHz Wi-Fi if you can, or pause big downloads on the same network.

What's free and what comes with Premium?

Free: one saved TV, Remote and Numbers modes, Power, Wake TV, and finding and pairing every supported TV. Some screens show ads, never the controller.

Premium: Touch, Keys and Apps modes, as many TVs as you like, and no ads at all. Prices and any free trial are shown before you buy.

How do I cancel or restore Premium?

Apple handles the subscription. To cancel, open Settings › [your name] › Subscriptions on your iPhone at least 24 hours before the renewal date; deleting the app doesn't cancel.

On a new device or after reinstalling, tap Restore purchases in OmniRemote's Settings while signed in with the same Apple Account.

What does OmniRemote keep and send?

Your saved TVs, their pairing keys (in the iOS keychain) and your preferences stay on your device. Commands go straight from your device to your TV over Wi-Fi.

Beyond your home, the app only fetches a small settings file at launch, shows Google ads in the free version under your consent choices, and checks Premium with Apple and RevenueCat. No account, no usage analytics. The Privacy policy has the details.
